Solidarity Bowls

A fourth-grade student at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart School in Baltimore, MD, assembles a symbolic rice bowl used to raise money for CRS’ Operation Rice Bowl program.  Catholic parishes, schools and families from more than 13,000 communities around the U.S. participate, using the small cardboard rice bowls as a focal point for their prayer, fasting, and learning. Since its beginning in 1975 through 2008, Operation Rice Bowl raised more than $167 million to fund CRS development projects in 40 countries. Photo by Jim Stipe/CRS
