Long-Garcia Takes Catholic Press Award

Belated congratulations to J.D. Long-Garcia and the Catholic Sun for winning the 2009 Catholic Press Association’s Gerard E. Sherry Award for Best Analysis/Background/Round Up News Writing.

Long-Garcia wrote several articles about the Church in the Middle East and Iraqi refugees. He was a 2008 CRS Eileen Egan Award winner, and traveled with CRS to Lebanon and Syria in fall 2008.  The Catholic Press Association observed that, “[Long-Garcia] employs storytelling techniques to relate the experience of real people and engage readers in the plight of this group of people.  The technique allows the writer to look backward and forward with regard to the issue, giving readers history and insight to help them understand the story.”
