Church’s Alternative to Female Circumcision

As relief workers, CRS staff is used to delivering tangible help such as food, well drilling projects, and medical supplies. But what do you do when you’re asked to help with a cultural need?

Earlier this year, Debbie DeVoe, CRS regional information officer for east and southern Africa, wrote this story about just such a request; it regards a rite of passage for girls that involves a practice euphemistically referred to as “female circumcision”.
