Brazil Experiences Massive Environmental Catastrophe

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Brazil as they as they experience the effects of what is said to be the biggest environmental catastrophe to affect the southeast region of the country in recent memory.

Heavy rains, flooding and landslides have been responsible for serious damage highly concentrated in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The most updated figures provided by the Civil Defense reports: 741 deaths, 207 missing, 94,926 people affected, 6,410 people lost all personal possessions, and 10,950 people displaced.

Catholic Relief Services has made a $50,000 contribution to Caritas Brazil to support the ongoing response to the emergency.
