6.1 Magnitude Quake Jolts Haiti

A very early and brief report from CRS’ emergency response team leader in Haiti this morning is that all is “okay” after another earthquake shook Haiti this morning.

The US Geological Survey reported a 6.1 magnitude quake hit Haiti around 6 a.m. Eastern today.

CRS’ communications officer Sara Fajardo was in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the country that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, when the quake struck. She reports that she didn’t feel the quake in Santo Domingo.

This from Sara: “I’m about to board the bus headed to Port au Prince. I spoke with Donal Reilly in Port au Prince. He says all is okay. It wasn’t that strong in Port au Prince, and as it was early in the morning. They aren’t expecting more casualties because people were sleeping outside, perhaps more structural damage.”

We are 3 women in the Dominican Republic. Can you tell us where we can go to help pack supplies for Haiti?

    Thank you
