This week marks the beginning of Advent, a time of hopeful anticipation. As we prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of Christ, we cannot help but be uplifted by Pope Francis’ anticipated video message in which he calls for an end to global hunger.
Join Catholics throughout the world in a global wave of prayer this Tuesday, December 10, 2013. The wave of prayer is the first step in a longer campaign sponsored by Caritas Internationalis, and supported by Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities USA in the United States, to end the scandal of world hunger. You’ve raised your voice to Congress on this issue before; now, join the global wave of prayer with millions of Catholics throughout the world.
In other hopeful news this week, Sean Callahan, Chief Operating Officer of Catholic Relief Services, testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations on CRS’ recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan. Sean’s testimony highlighted the importance of the U.S. government’s role supporting and funding robust recovery efforts in emergency situations such as this one. You can read the press release and watch a video from the hearing on CSPAN.
We thank you for your continued efforts to confront global poverty each and every day.
