Report from Quake Ravaged Padang

CRS in Baltimore was sent the following brief eyewitness report from Yudi Wiryawan, a CRS staffer currently in Padang Indonesia, near the epicenter of earthquakes that hit Sumatra Wednesday and Thursday.

I am living at the diocesan compound in padang. About 25 people who fled
their homes are also sleeping here.

Here in padang, some people who lost their homes are making tents with
tarps

The most important thing right now is temporary shelter.

Many latrines collapsed, contaminating wells.

Water pipes broken and there is no clean drinking water.

People need bottled water.

We will go to the villages today to do an assessment.
